Little joys of Life

The little joys of life, if we come to think of it happiness is not connected with weight of your wallet or the brand of your ensemble. The act is pretty much as simple as a  puppy loitering around people, say nearby a tea shop in sheer hope of getting fed by some kind human. Happiness is when a person feeds that puppy with his share of biscuits or bread. That scene is a delight to watch.
The simple joys of life makes up most of our beautiful moments, i personally believe this. My recent trip to Nainital re-established my faith in simplicity. On the 4th and second last day of our trip, we decided to take it easy and veg in our hotel room, while we were wasting our time watching television more than  half  of the day passed and just before 5 PM us girls (only two in number as opposed to 3 boys) decided that we have gained enough energy and (Guilt) by wasting practically the whole day indoors, which was definitely not the point. After much prodding, all of us decided to head towards Raj Bhavan. In retrospect, the decision was perfect. Since the road was ascending to a height and no public transport was frequented in that route, we decided to walk. The walk has to be one of the most beautiful walks of my life, not because we giggled and laughed and joked our way through, but because none of us were blabbering to each other. Each one of us was enjoying the walk and I was surely internalising the surroundings, the atmosphere. The beauty of walking not on a plane but ascending and enjoying the view of trees, mist, clouds accompanied with slight drizzle cheered me to my very core. It just calmed everybody's senses including mine. The traffic was minimal unlike the touristy mall road, every once in 15 minutes a bike or a car used to pass by and even that dwindled after we reached a certain height. The walk reminded me that appreciating nature fills me with gratitude and tones down my aggression.
Although we reached Raj Bhavan by 6:45 pm, and it was closed, but none of us cribbed and cringed, we just found it satisfying to have achieved that small feat of covering that stretch of approximately 4 kms. When we were descending down toward the mall road, we came across these small settlements along the hills, they were modest houses and had a market area nearby, which was humble and belonged to the indigenous Uttarkhandis living there. I saw senior citizens walking with their canes and walking sticks, more than walking it was ascending a height, as the houses are not on flat ground, they are running along with the mountains. I was huffing and puffing, and to my amusement, i see an elderly woman walking past by me with ease, that was hilarious because i knew then that people from hills are natural athletes and have immense stamina. When we all came down to the famous Mall Road, the first thing i gorged on was boiled eggs and then washed it down with a tasty ginger tea, shudh desi style. One can enjoy their own company even in a group, if you know how to soak in the surroundings. That walk pumped life in each cell of my body.

PS- Internalise the surroundings of the places you are visiting, try interacting not only with the people but also understanding the culture of the place.
